We Never Walk Alone

On the wall of my office I have a passage that came from the King’s Message December 25, 1939.

“I said to a man who stood at the Gate of the Year –
Give me light that I may tread safely into the unknown.
And he replied – Go into the darkness and put your hand into
The hand of God. That shall be better to you than light
And safer than the known way”

We Never Walk Alone

There is something in these words that has always spoken to me. I think that part of it is the concept that walking with the Divine presence means even in the darkness there is comfort and peace.  That, in fact, this presence is far better than the greatest light and the way is marked with possibility and safety. For me, these words also speak of connection – hand in hand – we never walk alone.

As we walk into this new year may we be reminded of the reality that we do not navigate this road alone. We are connected to one another and to the divine presence. This means that someone is always by our side or perhaps they are, at times, behind us giving a nudge or in front of us making the path easier.  This is indeed better to us than the light and safer than the known way!

Blessings
Valerie
