A Doorway to the Divine

For those who identify as Christian, Sunday is Sabbath time and some of that day is spent in worship. Usually, I can be found in a church building of some sort, surrounded by my faith family. We join together in prayer and praise and open ourselves to the divine presence revealed in song and word and silence. It is a time for renewal, a moment of comfort perhaps, some delving into the story that calls us and challenges us and a time to give thanksgiving.

Post - Doorway to the Divine 2A Quad, Not a Pew

This past Sunday I worshiped in a different way and in a different place.

Instead of a building, I found myself on the shores of the North Saskatchewan River.

Instead of a pew, I sat on a quad.

Instead of an organ or piano as the instrument of music, the whistling wind through the trees and the sound of the water lapping against the shore provided a melody of grace.

Instead of an entire congregation there was just my brother and I, moving from spot to spot, stopping for a moment and sharing a time of laughter and love. At certain points in the journey we simply sat without words as our energy united with the energy of the universe.

An Awesome Way to Experience Sabbath

SaskatchewanAs I looked out over the river in a variety of places the words of the psalmist came to mind.

“ You are clothed with honour and majesty, wrapped in light as with a garment. You stretch out the heavens like a tent, you set the beams of your chambers on the water, you make the cloud your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind.”
( Psalm 104:1b – 3)

It was an awesome way to experience Sabbath! While I love Sunday morning worship, there are times when doing something different opens a doorway to the divine that you hadn’t realized was there. Last Sunday was this for me! It was a time of connection, renewal, comfort, peace, joy and mystery.

Blessings
