This week I invite you find some rocks or stones and again ask yourself the question where is God/Spirit/Divine in this midst of this.
On the top of my desk there is a patio stone that was handcrafted by some children in one of previous pastoral charges. It includes a variety of other things beside stone but all of it is embedded in the rock. I began to think of the foundation that is needed for anything to take shape. A house must first have a foundation to hold the weight of the structure that is built. If that foundation is compromised then the rest of the building is in danger.
Our faith is very much like this. We all grow and change as we continue to learn new things but the foundation upon which we stand must be solid. This base allows us the courage to face the challenges of daily living and remain strong. For me this foundation is Jesus – his life and ministry. His teaching is the foundation that informs and holds up my own ministry. His faith shows me the importance of relying on Divine reality to offer hope and grace in the midst of life. This foundation is then built on by all with whom I travel and the daily infusing of spirit that comes in people, places, situations and creation.
My Picture This Week
My patio stone is a daily reminder of my foundation. In it there are symbols that bring to mind the things that give me strength and help to keep my faith grounded – the people who surround my represented by blue stones; the ancestors who share wisdom, represented by an angel; and sea shells that are a constant reminder of my connectedness to creation.
May you be reminded of the foundation that holds you up and may you know it’s strength.
Blessings
