A Lit Match – Something So Simple

Lit MatchOn the wall in front of me there hangs a picture of a lit match. It was gifted to me by a member of our church family who has long since left this realm and for me it is a reminder, daily, of light and life. It’s soft colours of blue and orange radiate and give a feeling of warmth. As I sit in the stillness of the morning and gaze at this I can feel spirit as it dances and I think of possibility. It is amazing to me that something so simple can carry such meaning. For me it is the light of hope and a flame of what can be and it grounds me in the midst of uncertain times.

As we navigate these days of anxiety and uncertainty we all need, I believe, something that calls us and grounds us; that speaks of holy presence; that invites us to experience a moment of peace; and that empowers us to move into the day with a sense of possibility and promise.

John O’Donohue writes this blessing and I leave you today with his words.

Awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence.

Have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.

Receive encouragement when new frontiers beckon.

Respond to the call of your gift and the courage to follow its path.

Let the flame of anger free you from all falsity.

May the warmth of your heart keep your presence aflame.

May anxiety never linger about you.

May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.

Take the time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention

Be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul.

May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.

Blessings
Valerie
