This morning we gathered with the residue of yesterday’s commissions resting in our hearts. There are threads of frustration and discord that weave through our beings. Doing the business of the court has been an exercise in patience for many of us. Some are concerned that we do not have the time to do the work of this Council and we are feeling unsettled because of that.
Despite this we are reminded that we are part of a body and we return to the covenant that we have made with one another that is based in
love, courage, respect,
wisdom, honesty,
humility and truth.
Comprehensive Review
With all of this before us we headed into the work of the Comprehensive Review.
What I am learning is yet more insight into my own being. I hear us talking and talking and around and around the circle we go.
I don’t like circles!
I don’t like chasing my tail!
Yet this is the reality of being a part of such a body and so I enter the circle and trust that something will happen. Laughter is part of this process that helps to relieve the pressure and lighten the mood. Every now and then something reminds us that we are in this together and we move again hoping and believing that, at some point, we will break free of the circle to begin again.
The afternoon brings a repreive and people head off in a variety of directions to take in the beauty and culture of Newfoundland. This is time for sabbath rest.
A Different Kind of WOW
As I read back over what I have written I realize that perhaps the WOW is not as obvious as in past days but it is there. A different kind of wow actually.
I never cease to be amazed at how we can go around and around, share the frustration, voice our concerns, live through the discord and come out on the other side still united and grounded in who we are as the church.
I look around the arena and see a sea of faces who are my brothers and sisters. Although I cannot call them all by name and I do not agree with all of them I am connected to each one and together we are community; we are family.
