On A Cold Blustery Day

On a cold blustery day, step away and simply be in that space that brings balance to your being. Step away and in the quiet, listen.

It is another blustery cold day here in Newfoundland. The winds are in from the North, and it feels like a day to cozy up next to a fire with a good book. For me, a day like today, is a time for escape into the pages of one of my comfort story. The one that I have read a dozen times and can immediately transport me to another time and place. The characters are familiar faces, whose stories I know. The scenes are ones that are imbedded in my memory and by simply closing my eyes I can picture every detail. I am at home in these stories, and they wrap me up in warmth, and bring a sense of peace to my soul.

On a Cold Blustery Day Nestled in the Warmth

I think that, in the hustle and bustle of life, we get caught up in the need to do something. We fill each hour of everyday with going to work or perhaps learning something new. Even our relaxing times often include going somewhere or doing something. Our hobbies have us creating, building, fixing, baking, writing. Always producing. But sometimes, what the soul really needs is to be free from all that and nestled in the familiar, the comfortable, the warmth and the peace. These times are important to our overall health and wellbeing. They are moments to renew our beings and balance our energy.

Step Away - In the Quiet Listen

Now there are no stories in scripture that suggest we should step away with a good book, but we are encouraged to step away to a quiet place to renew our souls. Moses did this frequently on his pilgrimage so that he might gain perspective and listen for the voice of the holy. Elijah looked for Divine in wind and fire and storm and it was not until there was silence that he was able to know that presence. Jesus frequently went off by himself to renew his soul and he invited the disciples to do the same.

So today I encourage you to step away and simply be in that space that brings balance to your being. May you feel Holy presence that is there in the stillness, in the familiar, in the quiet, speaking gently to our souls and cradling us in love.

May it be so

Blessings
