Take Jesus to the Doctor

Well, we made it!! We traveled, once again, with Jesus through Lent and Holy week. We stood on Calvary’s hill and we celebrated in the rising sun on Easter Sunday. During our journey, here at First,

we spent time listening to Jesus’ final words from the cross;

we explored the meaning of those words for us as we hear them through the ears of faith;

we contemplated how the cross can be a sign of life and love; and

we celebrated that the stone the builder’s rejected has become the cornerstone of life!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Now the work of the resurrection begins! We have been consecrated, claimed and are sent out to bring light and love to the world. So what does this look like? Well, that was revealed in the journey we just completed. Following Easter Sunday worship I received a text from my daughter, Terri, which I think sums it up. My grandson Jase (just shy of 4 years old), having listened to the Easter story reflected on its meaning –

he was mad that Jesus died and said that he would have taken Jesus to the doctor and then he would have fought the people who were mean to Jesus.

Remember that Jesus said

“Whatsoever you do to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you do it for me.”

Take Jesus to the Doctor

So as I reflect on this and on my grandson’s words I hear that I am called to be the hands of healing for those who are hurt. It is my task to confront the injustices of this world, to be a voice for the voiceless and to stand up for those who are diminished by bullies. I must be light and love in the midst of brokenness. When I do this, I indeed

take Jesus to the doctor and

stand up against the hatred of the world.

May the work of resurrection begin!

Blessings
Valerie
