Lent Week 3 - bird

The Treasure Hunt – Week 3

This week our treasure hunt takes us out into nature to find a bird.
Where do you see God/Divine/Spirit in this?

who teaches us more than the animals of the earth,
and makes us wiser than the birds of the air?’
Job 35:11

My husband, Mark, loves birds and has several bird feeders around the property. Recently the feeder on the deck had a visitor. Here is what I was able to capture on camera. This beautiful bird with its colour is amazing to watch. To me it speaks of the creativity of nature and the wonder of creation itself.

But more than that, as I watched this bird, I was transported back to my beloved river and my early morning meditations as I experienced creation waking from sleep to face a new day. On many mornings I was gifted with a growing symphony. The crows, Loons and other morning birds slowly join in song , accompanied by the sound of the wind blowing and the water flowing, creating this soul filling melody of Divine love. In that space I am filled with awe and my spirit is renewed. I can feel holy presence in a real and tangible way and know that I am part of something amazing!

Lent Week 3 - bird

The ancestors saw birds as symbols of strength and freedom

– but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ( Isaiah 40:31)

And teachers – “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; ( Job 12:7)

As you turn to the birds may you know strength and freedom; may you gain new insight and wonder; and may the Divine melody fill your soul.
