It is early morning, and I sit on the banks of my beloved river. Over the horizon the sun is slowly rising from its night of rest, the water is smooth, and the air is still. As light begins to cast its brilliant rays across the land there is a beauty and wonder that fills the soul with possibility and promise. The earth is brown from months of winter hibernation but every here and there are signs of resurrection and new life. Small green shoots can be seen emerging, reaching up toward the sun, buds are forming on the pussy willows and Creator’s melody can be heard in the voices of the returning birds. The cycle of life begins once more!

Out of Death will come new life
I write this in the middle of Holy week. For those who walk the path of Jesus this is a a week marked by excitement, fear, anxiety and darkness as we remember the story that shapes our spiritual journey. However, like the seeds, nestled deep in the darkness of the earth, we can also feel the pull of the sun – a light so brilliant and filled with power that out of death will come new life!
This season, physically and spiritually, brings with it joy, rebirth and hope. Within this lies the possibility of healing for a broken and hurting world. May we experience resurrection as the seeds break open, and green shoots rise, and the earth fills up with life. May we hear the call of Creator in the prayers sung by the winged ones; prayers rising from the misty waters; and prayers floating on the air in the rustle of newly formed leaves.
Blessings
