This morning on my drive in I was listening to an interview with a woman who decided to run 273km across PEI on the confederation trail to mark her 40th birthday. She spoke of the support she received from family and from strangers who joined her for parts of the journey and the stories they shared as they ran. She talked about the beauty of the trail and the special way of seeing the Island that this afforded her. But what struck me most were her final comments. The interviewer asked her what was next for her. She responded
“Oh its too soon to tell. I am still very tired. But what I do know is that I will continue to do hard things because on the other side of hard is where the magic lies.”
On the other side of hard is where the magic lies!
On the other side of hard is where the magic lies! What an amazing statement and such truth. Many of the things that we are called to do or forced to do because of a particular situation are definitely hard. But my experience has been that, when we make our way through, tackle the difficulties, make the changes, what awaits on the other is side magic. Perhaps it comes in the satisfaction of
- having completed a task;
- resolving an issue;
- learning a new skill;
- forming new relationships;
- discovering a new passion;
- seeing possibilities for the future; or
- just being able to stop, rest and renew.
Whatever it is, therein lies the magic!
My prayer for each of you is that you will not shy away from the hard things – conversations that need to take place, changes that need to happen, stepping outside your comfort zone into places that might make you feel uncomfortable, or making decisions that might shake up your life a bit. Face them, walk or run through them, for on the other side of hard magic lies.
Blessings
