What Would Happen If

The early morning sun is glistening off the snow as I sit to begin my day. I am tempted to go out for a walk but the minus 30 on the thermostat tells me that this might not be the greatest of ideas. I feel blessed that I have the option to sit in the warm and enjoy the view from my window.

Choirs of Comfort Concert

I have had the wonderful opportunity this past week to rest and to catch up on some planning. As I near the end of my study leave I am looking forward to Saturday when I join the choirs from our community in the annual “Choirs for Comfort” concert. We will gather to sing messages of hope, peace, joy, love, unity and so much more. At the same time we raise funds for an organization in our community that works for the good of humanity.

What Would Happen If …

Music, it is said, is a universal language. One only has to pay a little attention to see the reality of this and the words do not necessarily need to be ones that we understand. The music and those singing convey emotions, spirit and intent as they allow the music to take root in their beings. Those listening can feel it in their souls and be moved to unimaginable heights.

In light of all that is happening in our world I can’t help but wonder what would happen if we all learned how to sing together? In the midst of these wonderings I came across a quote that has been attributed to Plato and I feel in love with it. I leave you with these words:

“music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness and life to everything. It is the essence of order and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate and eternal form.”

My prayer is that the music of the universe might invade our souls and one day we might learn to sing together. May it be so.

Blessings
Valerie
