On the Trail Heading West

Early Saturday morning Mark and I packed our gear and headed out on an adventure. Seated on our Quads we made our way to the trail that would lead us west across the Island.

At first, we thought we would venture just as far as Bishop’s Falls where we would go across the trestle and have a lunch on the banks of the river. Once we arrived though, we thought why not just keep going, so we did just that. On to Grand Falls where we gassed up the bikes and then began the return journey. We stopped every so often just to take a closer look around and enjoy the warmth and beauty of the day.

Every now and then another bike would pass us.
There was the man running with his dog;
the two on peddle bikes, and
then the group who were gathering to head off, up country, for a bachelor party.

We saw still bodies of water with a great many lily pads; a bunny and a squirrel; stands of deep forest and open spaces that had been cleared or burnt over at some point. It was a day of deep peace and great beauty and we realized again, just how blessed we are.

As I drove my mind wandered and I thought of many things. At one point I recalled the words of the Psalmist in Psalm 84 and remembered the reflection I wrote some time ago.

How lovely is this dwelling place
     My soul is fed.
      My thirst is quenched.
      My heart sings!

Even the sparrow finds a home
And the swallow, a place to lay her young.
On the mountains
      I behold wonder.
In the valleys,
      A place of peace.
Rivers nourish the soul.
The sun brings forth life
And night, a time of rest.

Blessed are all who call this place home.

Blessings,
Valerie

  1. We use the groomed trails in river John to tatamgouche so much more enjoyable the boys like the rough and muddy paths but not me I go for the view! Sharon Richards

  2. Love that you’re doing this…at the risk of sounding like that dreaded TV ad.. i have to say ‘that’s so you!’😉. Bringing you closer to nature…keep enjoying.
